Book seven in the "The Demonata" series focuses on Bec's stolen memories from Baranabus, the childhood friend she knew as Bran, and their current struggle against the Demonata. Bec thought her new life would be a second chance with Bran, but he returned to the Demonata universe to fight against Lord Loss and gain more information about the mysterious Shadow. Bec, as part of the weapon known as the Kah-Gash, was left behind with Dervish. Dervish obsessively wants to know about his deceased nephew Bill-E's memories, and Bec obliges, but hates that she has no relationships of her own. Just as she and Dervish begin to get along, the house is attacked by werewolves and Dervish is stricken with a heart attack. Once more, Darren Shan provides a fast-paced, exciting plot for his characters, full of twists and turns. Fans of both horror and urban fantasy will enjoy the series; however, graphic depictions of violence might put off some readers.
