• Back in the groove

    17 July 2010

Put the distractions to one side on Thursday and Friday and fired ahead with my editing duties. I'm currently working on a new series to follow up The Saga of Larten Crepsley. I can't say anything about it at the moment, except that so far I've written 5 books, and I think there are still quite a lot to go. If all goes well, I can hopefully reveal more about it at some point over the next year or so. But for the time being I have to keep tight-lipped. Sorry about that -- but at least you know I'm not just sitting around twiddling my thumbs!! I always start a series a few years ahead of publishing it, so the secrecy is nothing new -- this is just the first time since I began my blog that you guys have become aware of the secrecy! There are many levels to the writing process, most of which are never seen by readers -- the only thing that should truly matter to you guys is the finished product. I like to share as many of those levels with my fans as possible, which is why I always keep you in the loop here on my blog, letting you know what I'm working on, talking about first draft and edits and proofs and so on. So while it might seem at the moment as if I'm teasing you by talking about a secret work in progress, I'm not -- in years to come, if the series works out and goes on to get published, you'll be able to say that you were following its fortunes right from the very beginning, even before anyone in the world knew what the series was about. How cool is that?!?!?

I've also been busy working on ironing out the last creases on my web site. Even though the site went live more than two months ago, we haven't given it its final draft (so to speak). There were various little tweaks that my designer has been working on, and it's only really in the last week that full control of the site has passed to me. I'm now in the process of filling in the remaining blanks -- for instance, I updated and re-jigged the Extras section a few days ago, I've updated the Frequently Asked Questions in the About Darren section, I've re-organised the Links section, and Pablo is in the process of ironing out a few kinks in the Reviews section. Over the coming week I plan to copy across the last few scraps from the old site, polish off the Covers and Downloads section, maybe reorganise the Phots section slightly, and fiddle with another few bits and pieces here and there. And then -- finally -- it will all be done and dusted!!! Hurrah!!!!!
