    03 February 2022

I was stunned when the staff of Bay House Learning Resource Centre in the UK posted a photo of a sculpture of a transforming Grubbs Grady, based on the hardback cover of the British edition of Wolf Island. It had been created by a member of the library team called Miss Bromyard, and was being used across a variety or schools, libraries and book fairs to promote reading. I was blown away and dropped them a quick line to express my admiration and thanks.

"Oh-ho!!" they replied. "That's not all that the talented Miss Bromyard has turned her hand to over the years!!!!"

And they shared with me photos of three other sculptures that she had created, featuring Artery from my Demonata series, one based on the cover of Bec, and a beautiful little beast modelled after Madam Octa from the Cirque Du Freak.

The models of Bec and Madam Octa have been retired after years of happy service, but the other two are still out there, doing the rounds, a testament to the wonders that truly dedicated librarians can weave when they set their minds to it. Miss Bromyard and co -- all of us in Shan-land most heartily and enthusiastically salute you!!!!
