• Darren and Steve through the ages

    04 December 2021

A fan of my Cirque Du Freak series on Twitter, called Kanda, has been drawing a lot of fan art inspred by the books recently. Four of them took Darren and Steve as their subject matter, and taken together they provide a moving snapshot of the evolution of their relationship over the years.

In the first we see a young, innocent Darren and Steve, playing together, no idea of the dark paths down which their lives are going to lead them, though that red cloak they're sheltering beneath should have provided a clue...

The second catches them a bit further down the line, in their stylish green school blazers, on the day that Steve waves a couple of tickets to the Cirque Du Freak beneath Darren's nose...

The third drops in on them many years later, when they have "teamed up" to hunt for the Lord of the Vampaneze...

And the fourth brings their story full circle, as they discover that the cloak they have truly been draped by all these years, is actually the cloak of DesTiny...
