• Evanna and graffiti

    22 June 2022

These two photos came my way today, and both relate to movements in the Shan world a decade or so ago.

The first is a photo of a 9 year old girl in the Netherlands, reading Cirque Du Freak (in Dutch) for the first time. Her mother was a big fan of my books back in the day, which goes a long way to explaining why the girl's name is... EVANNA!!!! I feel very honoured that Evanna was named after a character in my books, but worried at the same time -- as I said to her mother, what is she HATES my stories?!?

The second photo was shared with me by fellow author Phil Earle when he visited the Norfolk Children's Book Centre on tour. Some vandal seemingly broke in there back in 2011 and scrawled a disgraceful bit of graffiti on one of the walls, and something set him wondering if by any chance *I* might know something about it...

Heh heh!! I never shy away from leaving a BIG signature behind if I'm ever asked to sign a wall in a bookshop -- like I said to Phil, and the store's wonderful owner, Marilyn, I fall firmly into the "go big or go home" camp!!!!
