• Mr Crepsley and Darren fan art

    06 August 2022

My most popular series with readers around the world is, by quite a long shot, The Saga Of Darren Shan (also known as the Cirque Du Freak series). I think one of the key reasons why it's so beloved is the relationship between Darren and Mr Crepsley. Despite all the vampires and vampaneze, and big, dramatic story arcs, it was the bonding between warm-hearted Darren and his taciturn mentor that really resonated with readers. So it's no surprise to me when it comes to fan art that so many fans over the years have drawn the pair together -- really, when it's one without the other, I always feel like there's a gap that should have been filled...

The first drawing is a very recent one, by NOEL, who decided to have fun with the pair's sometimes dubious fashion sense. I've got to say, *I* think they look rather dashing in this get-up, even if nobody else does!!! :-)

The second, by LIV, is a far darker drawing, harking back to the first book, and that night when their paths were first about to cross.

The third, by EMILY, is proof that sometimes less can be more -- I think the lack of colour works perfectly in this instance.

The fourth, by JAZZ, dates back quite a long time -- I came across a load of fan art in a folder last year that I'd never got around to uploading to my site, and I'm still slowly working through pieces from that. Sorry the delay in highlighting your sterling work, Jazz -- but hey, in Vampire years, it's only been a few months!!! :-)
