• T S Hathaway reviews - part 3

    19 April 2022

A blogger called T.S. Hathaway recently reviewed all 12 books in my Saga Of Darren Shan / Cirque Du Freak series. I provided links for the first six a while back (some are also in the April issue of my monthly online newsletter: https://darrenshan.com/news/shanville-monthly), and here are the reviews for books 7 to 9, in which the hunt to find and kill the Lord of the Vampaneze gets under way.

When I posted the last set of reviews, with images of the covers, a fan on Facebook quipped that J K Rowling hadn't been very imaginative with her reviews for the different books! As far as I'm aware she only ever read the first book -- that's certainly the only one she ever commented on anyway. She wrote a lovely short blurb for it, which definitely helped Cirque Du Freak get noticed when it was released in the early noughties, in the midst of the initial wave of Harry Potter hysteria. When my publishers told me they were planning to use it on the covers of the other books in the series as well, I argued that this was a mild form of cheating, and they should really only use it on the first book -- but obviously the marketing people pretended to be deaf, and completely ignored me, and in truth, I can totally understand why!! :-)

These covers are the second generation American paperback covers. You check out the rest of the covers (hardback, paperback and others) by clicking on the following link: https://darrenshan.com/covers/country/usa-the-saga-of-darren-shan
