• Tattoo Tuesday - Ashton

    05 July 2022

It's Tattoo Tuesday time again, and today's amazing image comes to us courtesy of a fan called Ashton, who decided to pay homage to their favourite Darren Shan book... The Thin Executioner!!!

As I've often said in the past, The Thin Executioner is MY personal favourite too. It's far from being my best-selling or most-loved book, and I like to think that's at least in part because my publishers never loved it as much as I did, and didn't push it quite as hard as they pushed some of my other work. Or maybe I'm doing them a disservice, and readers just weren't that interested in the book. It has a very loyal following, fans who -- like me -- think it's a stunner, to whom it speaks clearly and enchantingly. But maybe, with its weird names and somewhat languid pacing, it was always destined to be a cult item, rather than a massive crowd pleaser.

Either way, if all my books were going to be destroyed, and I could only keep one of them, the one I'd choose would be The Thin Executioner, so as happy as I always am to see a fan get a tattoo based on one of my books, I was ESPECIALLY happy to see this one. Great choice, Ashton!! Thwack!!!!!
