• The old cradling the young

    14 November 2021

I'm turning the cuteness factor all the way up to 11 this Sunday, with three photos of "elderly" members of the Shan clan cuddling younger members.

It should be easy to figure out the pair in the first snap -- that's me (if you don't know that, you're on the wrong page!) and my daughter Gaia, when we visited the Cliffs of Moher on a gray, wet, windy day back in the middle of the Irish "summer."

If you're a regular voyeur of my Sunday photo posts, the pair in the second photo should be fairly familiar too -- my son Dante, and his granny Babcia, taken a few weeks ago when we went to stay with her for a week over the half-term and visited Kew Gardens on one of the days.

But the third... oh-ho!!! That was taken a while further back, and only the most eagle-eyed among you will be able to work out who THAT pair are!! Some clues...

the teenage girl holding the baby is my aunt Maureen... the photo was taken in 1972... and that adorable little bundle of joy in her arms is the future "Master of YA Horror"... ME!!!!

Wasn't I an alert little baby?!? I look like I was already plotting a multi-book series, and casting my gaze around for ideas!! In fact, a quarter of a century later, it was when I was babysitting one of aunt Maureen's children in her car, while she was off shopping, that I had the idea for Cirque Du Freak -- so maybe this WAS where it truly all started, and Mr Tiny is lurking, just out of frame, whispering words of wickedness into my innocent little ears...
