Torc waterfall
25 August 2019Killarney is a beautiful part of the world, and I'm lucky enough to live fairly close to it, so I've been able to visit it a lot over the years. My parents took me and my brother there countless times as children, and it was a very special pleasure to be able take my own children there for the first time a few weeks back.
One of the parts I most loved about Killarney as a child was going to visit Torc waterfall. It's a lovely little waterfall, with rocks you clamber over during the summer (there's even a chilly little pool where you can do for a dip if you're brave enough to undertake the climb), and a path up the side which allows you to ascend and admire the view from on high. Part of me was worried that Dante would find it boring, and I prepared myself for disappointment, but to my delight he loved it, and the pair of us shot up the path, and down it even faster, the Shan ladies following at a more leisurely, measured pace. (It's hard to jog up a mountain when you're carrying a baby!)
I hope we get back to Torc waterfall and the rest of Killarney as a family many more times over the years to come, but for now, here are some photos of our very first trip, something to look back on fondly when we're all a lot older and creakier and can only go trotting up mountains in our fantasies and dreams.
