• World Book Day 2022 roundup

    14 March 2022

I did LOADS of school events in the week or two either side of World Book Day this year. I haven't gone out on the road around World Book Day in a long, LONG time, but Zoom and Teams makes it so much easier to schedule events these days, without having to leave your home, so I decided to do a virtual tour, and I'm so happy that I did -- it was great to chat with so many students and to see that books like Cirque Du Freak, Lord Loss and Zom-B still have the power to captivate after all this time!

I posted several photos from some of the events already, but here are a couple more that came to me a little later in the day. The first was taken during an event I did with the students of Oldfield Primary School in England, while the second (featuring four different shots) was taken during a similar event I did with the students of Borrisokane Community College in Ireland. With a lot of online events, the students stay in their classrooms, and several classes join in at the same time, and in both these instances, the students were gathered together in one large room, the way they would be if I was doing the event in the flesh. Either way works fine for me -- I always let the teachers decide, based on what works best for them.

I don't just do events to tie in with World Book Day -- I've done quite a few since the start of the school term last year, and will be happy to do quite a few more if requests come in over the months ahead of us, so if YOU are a teacher or librarian, anywhere in the world, and are interested in contacting me to enquire about the possibility of arranging your own online Darren Shan event, please feel free to reach out and drop me a line using this email address: [email protected]

I don't charge for the events, and I'm happy to talk about any of my books. I don't say YES to every request, but if you're well organised and can put together a large group of students (either in your own school, or by including others in your area) then you've got a good chance of getting a thumbs up from me!!!
