Clockwork Serenity | 23 November 2012 |

I was blown away by this bloody little book! There are news reports of zombies in Ireland, but the people of London aren’t sure if it is real or a hoax. B lives in an abusive home with a racist father and doesn’t have time to consider zombies. B takes out aggressions on the kids at school and before they all know it zombies are bursting into their school and devouring kids left and right. Is there a governmental conspiracy? Does B fight alongside the black, Muslim, and Indian kids? It’s a wild run to the end of this first book that is supposedly the first in a long series of Zom-B books.

I’ve been told to read Darren Shan’s Cirque du Freak series, but never picked it up. I will pick it up now because I loved this book. The writing is fantastic and the British gang slang was utterly immersive when the teens spoke. B is at constant odds with life and family, with right and wrong, and we feel that frustration throughout the whole book. The illustrations peppered throughout the book were great additions and the short chapters made for a very quick read. I don’t mind reading a book that leaves me hanging at the end when I am impressed. I will be picking up this sequel in January 2013 as soon as I can get my hands on it.
