If you’re looking for quick zombie reads, I recommend the Zom-B Zom-B Series by Darren Shan. At the moment, there are 5 volumes in the series and there will be 12 when it’s over. It’s a really different zombie series for a few reasons which I will not give away! Also, there are some really cool illustrations throughout that make them more interesting to read.

The main character, B, a teen living in London, has a completely racist father who abuses his wife as well as B. B imitates those behaviours to school by bullying other kids and making inappropriate comments to friends. In the later hald of the book, B experiences a zombie attack on the high school which leaves the readers with a cliff-hanger ending. Each book in series follows B through this now zombie-infested world slowly figuring out why this has all happened. Things get increasingly more complicated, mysterious and suspenseful as B meets others and learns of their experiences.

Darren Shan is an Irish author who has written many books for teens and children including the Cirque Du Freak series which was recently turned into a movie. The language he uses in Zom-B is earthy, the plot is fast-paced and the character development is surprisingly strong given the shortness of each book. Each is satisfyingly gory, realistic, fantastical and are sure to please teens and adults alike.
