SFX | 13 January 2013 | Ian Berriman

THE FIRST IN THIS 12-part teen zombie series had some laudable features: two killer twists about protagonist B, and a strong anti-racism subtext. This second entry isn’t quite as strong.

Set six months later, it takes place entirely in an underground facility, where we learn that some zombies can recover their human faculties — at least, for a while…

There’s grisly zombie-flamethrowering action aplenty, lashings of jet-black humour, and B remains interestingly ambivalent. But some twists defy credulity, the Big Bad teeters on the dividing line between creepy
and laughable, and it’s such a quick read that you may feel slightly aggrieved at the size of the portions.

3.5/5 stars.
