5/5 stars.

I don't know what to say other than wow, just wow. I haven't read a Darren Shan book for nearly a year now (and boy, have I been missing out) I guess I was just scared to read this one as I don't like zombies very much, especially the brain-eating variety! Although I needn't have worried too much as most of the action was contained at the end of the book, which I happened to read during the day so I didn't scare myself silly!

I loved this, I really, really loved this book, and that's a lot coming from a self professed zombie avoider-at-all-costs-or-can't-sleep-er. The main story circles around B, a tough school kid with problems at home and a gang of friends. This first book (in a series of 10) sets up the zombie appocalypse perfectly.

I want to say more about this thrilling book, but I can't in case I accidently spoil the twist at the end...and trust me, you don't want me to spoil it. The twist reminded me of what a clever and careful writer Shan can be, thinking of every detail, down to the gory intestines being ripped out of people. If you haven't read this book yet, why not?

Zom-b Underground is book 2 in the series and is out at the beginning of January.
