EVENING ECHO -- reviewed by Evan O'Sullivan (age 10)

THIS is the last installment of the brilliant Saga of Darren Shan. It is divided into three parts. Instead of getting bored with the big plot, after a while there were a lot of small plots, which gradually lead up to the big plot. That kept the book very interesting.

Darren is in search of his nemesis Steve. Steve only has one feeling for his former best friend Darren — hate. But all is not as it seems, and this book has twists and turns on every page. The style of the book is serious but has comedy in places, which makes it easy to read. One of the special things in this book is the phrases in Darren's language, the most unusual phrases ever!

The main characters are Darren Shan, a vampire prince; Harket Mulds, a little person created by Desmond Tiny; and Vancha March, also a vampire prince. Darren is average height, has white skin, has blonde hair, long nails and is very fast.

Harket Mulds has grey skin, yellow teeth, wears blue robes, is small and has no ears. Vancha March wears animal hides as clothing, is tall, has long nails, and can also move very fast.

There are no illustrations in this book, which I think is much better because it lets you imagine the characters yourself. When you finish this book it gives you a sneak preview of his next book, which is called Lord Loss.

One thing I disliked about the book was that in some places, things and people weren't described enough. It is a well-written book that has a spectacular storyline which is no doubt the best book he has ever written. I would recommend this book to anyone aged 10 to 14.
